Get a Portland Public Library card

 

Any resident of Cumberland or York County is eligible for a Portland Public Library card. To register for a Portland card at Curtis Memorial Library, bring a Maine driver’s license, or two other forms of ID with name and current address. Young people ages 12-18 must show a  school ID with photo and have a parent or guardian co-sign the form. For more details, please stop in at the Lending Services desk.

Reference USA:  This now includes residential and business information. Look up directory information on businesses or residences across the country. Narrow a search by criteria such as number of employees and sales.

Learn a Language:  Mango Languages is an online language-learning system that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian or English.  Available from home—set up an account with your email address and library barcode, and select a language.   

Auto Repair and MaintenanceAuto Repair Reference Center offers detailed information on auto repair and maintenance, including wiring diagrams. To use off-site, link from PPL’s website and enter your 14-digit PPL barcode. 

Small Engine Repair and MaintenanceSmall Engine Repair Reference Center has repair information for lawnmowers, watercraft, ATVs, motorcycles, tractors, snowmobiles and more. (Available through the generosity of the David K. Silverman Fund.)

Learn a TestLearn a Test helps you study and practice for exams such as ASVAB, Civil Service, SAT, US Citizenship and more. It now includes e-books, study guides for some common tests. Research Maine NewsThe Maine News Index Online includes abstracts and citations for articles from Portland and Maine periodicals which Portland Public Library’s Portland Room staff have compiled since 1993.
