Friends
of the Curtis Memorial Library assist the Library in many ways.
Below are some of the ways you can help make our library the best
it can be. Please join us. We would love to have you.
BOOK
SALE - CALL JULIE 725-5242 ext. 237
looking for volunteers to help with movng books, setup, selling, and breakdown. Please call Julie to offer your services. All dates from Monday June 23 to Sunday June 29, 2008. Thanks!
Movers:
We need individuals able to carry boxes of books. About 45,000 books
are donated throughout the year for the book sale. We review, select,
and box the books according to topics. We then move these boxes
to a nearby warehouse twice a month. We need volunteers to make
two moves in a month. You will be assigned a specific month. You
have flexibility to fit the moves into your schedule, including
weekends. A truck or van would be helpful but not necessary.
Vehicles:
We need the use of pickup trucks or similar vehicles to occasionally
help movers transport small quantities of books during the year.
This is an ideal position for someone who would like to help the
book sale, but cannot lift heavy weights.
Movers
on Sale Dates: On the Tuesday
before the sale we move and setup about 85 tables loaned by Bowdoin
College. We then move books from the warehouse to the sale site.
Following the sale (Sunday afternoon), we pack the unsold books
into boxes for disposal. Tables are "broken down" and
returned to Bowdoin College. Some of our volunteers can work a full
day and some only part of the day. Either is welcome. We need 14-16
volunteers who can carry boxes of books. (Pizza is served at 5:00
pm on Tuesday)
FIRE
TENDERS
A cozy fire
in the reading room of the original library building requires lighting
and tending one day a week during chilly months.
OTHER
HELP
Volunteers
are also needed to help with mailings of newsletters, notices of
upcoming events and membership materials.
Those interested
in helping to organize or deliver books to the homebound are also
needed.
