March 2- Curtis Memorial Library, Morrell Meeting Room, 9:30 - 10:30 am. Cornerstones of Science Kinder Science program. Black Blizzards and Dust Bowls for 5 and 6 year olds and parent. Listen to the book Stars Beneath your Bed: the Surprising Story of Dust and participate in a dust science activity. Free and open to the public. Registration is required. March 3- Brunswick, Eveningstar Cinema, Tontine Mall, 149 Maine St., 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. The Grapes of Wrath film (1940) 20th Century Fox Studios, starring Henry Fonda, directed by John Ford. Admission is free.
March 5 – Bath, Maine Maritime Museum, 7:00 pm. Book discussion of The Grapes of Wrath with introductory comments on Bath in the Depression by Peter Goodwin, Sagadahoc History & Genealogy Room Manager at Patten Free Library.

March 7- Curtis Memorial Library, Morrell Meeting Room, 7:00 pm. Present Day Migrants of Central America and Mexico. Presentation by photojournalist Jim Harney, Artist in Residence of Posibilidad, a Bangor, Maine-based nonprofit that prioritizes engaging people in conversation around the excluded of society. Jim's incisive commentary and haunting images create an immediate sense of the reality being described and his skills as a facilitator enlarge conversation.

March 15 – Patten Free Library, Bath, 7:00 pm. Geoff Kaufman Performs Depression-Era Folk Songs. Folksinger Geoff Kaufman has been called “one of the golden voices of New England’s folk music scene.” Bring the family and revisit the 1930s through ancient ballads, work songs, songs of love, poignant songs of people in struggle, and humorous songs of human foibles.

Science Sleuths program, a parent-child book discussion for 7 to 12 year-olds and caregiver, Dust to Eat: Drought and Depression in the 1930s, by Michael L Cooper. Registration is required. March 22 – Patten Free Library, Bath, 7:00 pm. Illustrated lecture –The Wrath of a Nation: Reading The Grapes of Wrath in 1939 and 2007--by nationally renowned Steinbeck scholar Susan Shillinglaw - Professor of English at San Jose State Univ. and Scholar-in-Residence at the National Steinbeck Museum in Salinas, CA.
March 22 – Wiscasset Public Library, Children’s Room, 10:30 - 11:30am. Reading of Leah’s Pony, Depression era books and crafts.
March 23 - Patten Free Library, Bath, Dust Bowl Family Festival
5:00 pm – Scavenger Hunt for children, Book discussion of Out of the Dust led by Francie Tolan & Julie Rice or Ask a Steinbeck Expert – Visit with Susan Shillinglaw in our History Room and get answers to all your questions about Steinbeck and The Grapes of Wrath.
6:00 pm – Chili and cornbread supper. (tickets available at PFL in March) In the spirit of helping our neighbors, we will be collecting dry and canned food for the local food bank. You can even tie goods in a bandanna and hang it on a stick for a hobo picnic donation.
7:30 pm –Fiddler Frank Ferrel in Concert. Come hear the heart-lifting traditional fiddle music that kept America going in hard times. Considered “one of the finest living masters of the genre,” Bath’s own Frank Ferrel has performed on Prairie Home Companion and toured with the legendary Celtic group Boys of the Lough.
March 24- Topsham Public Library, 10:00 am. Free showing of The Journey of Natty Gann, rated PG, 101 minutes.
March 24 – Wiscasset Public Library, 10:00 – 12 pm. Popcorn and a movie featuring Riding the Rails.
March 24- Patten Free Library, Bath, 1:00 pm. Depression-era board game fun for the whole family. An afternoon of monopoly and/or scrabble - two popular board games created during the Depression that are still favorites. Registration required, call 443-5141.
