[...] Are you looking for a playground in Brunswick? A nearby children’s museum or sports camp? Do you know a new family in town who would like to know what resources are available for the kids? Then pick up a free copy of the Family Resource Handbook at the youth services desk. Sponsored by the Curtis Friends, this is a handy print version of our online handbook. [...]

* Which library services do you value, and why?
The Children's area and the kid's programming (including Cornerstonss of Science) is phenomenal, and Robin is a particularly wonderful resource!

    * How often do you come to the library and what do you do here?
Weekly
    * How long have you had your library card at Curtis, how much do you use it?
9 years... often!
    * How has the library enriched you and your family?
We are homeschoolers, so books, audio books, magazines, movies and library programs are a constant in our week-to-week programming.

* How helpful are the staff and what do they do for you?
Robin and Melissa in the kids' area have been very helpful over the years. They go above and beyond to help the kids find what they are looking for, and they are always incredibly friendly.

* How well does the collection (books, magazines, DVD and other materials) meet your needs?

    * How do you or your community groups use the meeting spaces?
In the past I've rented space for homeschool classes, but we won't be doing so any more now that CML is charging for use.

    * How important is the library to the quality of life in Brunswick and Harpswell?
Very... Curtis is truly a community center that promotes literacy and family.

As a librarian, homeschooling mom, self-educator, and diverse reader, libraries have always been vital to me. I don't live in Brunswick, yet my children and I come to the library at least once per week. I laugh about building my mind and body - lugging 30-40 lbs of books each week! My 14 year old son said that the library was his favorite place; that home is nice, homeschool group is great, but the library always has something he wants to read or watch or learn about. Our libraries are suffering, and I can't think of an institution that houses a more diverse set of services our communities cannot live without. Libraries in general rock, but the Curtis Library is a special perfect storm of staff, resources, location, and availability that is rare and precious. Thank you for all your work and dedication!

The Curtis Memorial Library is the center of my life in the community. Whether I am in the library several times a week or not more than once in a month as it goes through the years, I rely on the catalog to supply me with poetry, philosophy, the latest Ghosh novel, books on subjects that I read for my work. I have learned how to cite from the internet for a research paper. I have compared notes on a particular author with the circulation desk professional. I am at the website, including it's Minerva and MaineCat access, with the same regular irregularity as my visits. The library, the physical building and it's holdings and staff, and the library, the service and portal, are as essential to my living at the level of engagement that I need with my world, as my profession is to a level of service. Simply put - the library is my doorway to a world that I would otherwise have no way of living in. I cannot imagine life without it. The dog catcher yes. The Curtis Library, no.

I have used the Curtis Memorial Library since moving to the area more than 30 years ago. Going to the library on a regular basis helped instill a love of books and reading that remains with my two adult sons today. I continue to enjoy the amazing selection of books Curtis offers, whether I'm looking for fiction, nonfiction, or audio books to get me through a session on the treadmill. I make full use of interlibrary loan services to access material, and although I can imagine a time when I might break down and go the route of a Kindle-type device, it currently holds little appeal. As long as I can get myself to my public library, I'm benefiting from the best deal available in the world today. There is so much offered to so many for FREE, it's beyond belief. There is no better money spent than on community support for our library.
