York County
Maine Audubon's wings of winter trip in Southern Maine
produced 31 species,
including 30 HARLEQUIN DUCKS between the Cliff House and
Marginal Way in
Ogunquit.
A CAROLINA WREN and a COOPER'S HAWK were seen in York.
Three HORNED LARKS, 3 SANDERLINGS, PURPLE SANDPIPERS and
a BARRED OWL were
at Biddeford Pool. In West Biddeford there were 30-40
SNOW BUNTINGS.
A BALD EAGLE and COMMON MERGANSERS have been at the Saco
Yacht Club. CEDAR
WAXWINGS have been in the vicinity of Laurel Hill
Cemetery and Fairfield
School in Saco.
Greater Portland and western Maine
TURKEYS and a RUFFED GROUSE were along the Broad Turn
Road in Scarborough,
and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were along the Fowler Road.
A HORNED LARK and a BRANT were at Kettle Cove in Cape
Elizabeth.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were at Two Lights. A CAROLINA
WREN and a BALD
EAGLE were near Broad Cove in Cape Elizabeth.
An ICELAND GULL was at Willard Beach in South Portland.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen on the Tressel Bridge near
the sewage plant
off Marginal Way in Portland. A PEREGRINE FALCON was also
seen on the Fleet
Bank building in Portland.
Maine Audubon's Casco Bay field trip on February 8
yielded many species
including RED-THROATED LOON, BALD EAGLE, and BONAPARTE'S
GULL.
Two 2 BALD EAGLES were seen flying over Maine Audubon's Fore
River
Sanctuary in Portland.
One HUNDRED ROBINS and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were seen in
Cumberland.
Three COMMON GRACKLES made an off-season or first migrant
arrival at
feeders in Freeport. A dozen BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were
seen from the dock at
Harraseeket Lobster and Lunch in Freeport on Sunday
afternoon.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in Casco.
A BALD EAGLE was seen in Naples.
Seven TURKEYS were in Bridgton.
A COOPERS HAWK and CEDAR WAXWINGS in Wilton.
Central Maine
A CAROLINA WREN was seen in Unity.
In Dixmont this week there were 9 JUNCOS, 4 PURPLE
FINCHES, and a NORTHERN
SAW-WHET OWL.
There was a 2nd winter ICELAND GULL at the Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife
office in Bangor.
On Sunday, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was in a yard in Winterport,
and another one
was seen elsewhere in Winterport.
Two BALD EAGLES were seen in Brewer.
150 CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen feeding on crabapples on the
University of
Maine campus in Orono.
Northern Maine
Seventy-five GOLDFINCHES and 6 PURPLE FINCHES were seen
in Houlton.
Seventy-five GOLDFINCHES and a BALD EAGLE were seen in
Fort Kent.
Midcoast
In Georgetown this week there were 12 BALD EAGLES and a
TURKEY.
A RAZORBILL and 2 GUILLEMOTS were at Pemaquid.
A SNOWY OWL was at Clary Hill in Union.
The Merrymeeting Audubon field trip at Reid State park on
Feb. 8 from 9
am -12:30 pm 25 hearty, bundled up birders saw 25 species
of birds.
Species seen included GREAT CORMORANT, 6 HOODED
MERGANSERS, 1 BALD EAGLE
(imm) 30 SANDERLINGS, 1 PURPLE SANDPIPER, SHORT-EAREAD
OWL, 25 HORNED
LARKS, and 3 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
Four and five EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen in a bush along
Route 144 in
Wiscasset.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was across from Moody's Diner in
Waldoboro.
In Warren there were 30 BALD EAGLES at one time in the
sky along Route 131.
In Belfast harbor there were 3 pairs of BARROW'S
GOLDENEYES swimming and
displaying around the area of the footbridge.
On Monhegan Island there were 12 ROBINS, JUNCOS, CEDAR
WAXWINGS, 1
NORTHERN SHRIKE, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and a BALD EAGLE.
Eastern Maine
Three BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on Upper Codyville Road
in Topsfield.
