--------------------------------------------------------------------------
An immature GOLDEN EAGLE is apparently over wintering in
Warren. This bird
was first sited in the midcoast area on Jan 12. It is a
plainly marked bird
with prominent, bright white patches in wrist of wing and
white tail with
crisp, blackish tail band. In flight, it is hard to
confuse with immature
bald eagles. The smallish size suggests a male. The most
predictable times
to view it are at or before 7 AM and 2-4 PM (depending on
weather
conditions). A plowed parking area adjacent to old Crowe
Rope Factory off
Main Street is a good place to scan. Although many eagles
are seen out on
Rte 1 in Warren, the road is narrow due to construction
project, and could
prove hazardous to park safely. Most of the eagles pass
along the river
between day and roost sites.
On Tuesday the 4th, it flew down river to a gathering
area along Route 1.
This is the 3rd sighting within the past 3 weeks. The
bird is well marked
with prominent white patches in the wrist area of the
wings and blackish
tail band. A large concentration of Bald Eagles also occupies
the area.
Twenty-two BALD EAGLES were counted today. Recently a
parasailer estimated
