A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen on Monhegan for several days last week. If you go to Monhegan, at the ice pond turn left, as if aiming for the northern end of Manana or taking the back way towards the school. Pass the first house on the right and continue towards the shoreline. The house along the shore is called the Wick-Wack and the bird has been hanging around the shore and the house.
York County
A WILSON'S STORM-PETREL was off of Drake's Island flying south, along with many GANNETS.
Six PIPING PLOVERS were at Goose Rocks. An INDIGO BUNTING was at the Clock Farm.
The list from Kennebunk Plains included 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, BOBOLINKS, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and GRASSHOPPER and VESPER SPARROWS.
At the Saco Heath there was a PRAIRIE WARBLER.
Scarborough Marsh Area
Two WILSON'S PHALAROPES and a SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROW were behind the Pelreco Building at Pine Point. Off Pine Point there were 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS. NELSON'S and SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was off Eastern Road at Scarborough Marsh. On Stratton Island there were 3 BRANT, 3 SORA, 4 GADWALL, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, RUDDY TURNSTONES, and the regulars.
Greater Portland and western Maine
A Sunday sea watch of about 2.5 hours (6:10-8:40) at 2 Lights in Cape Elizabeth produced WILSON'S STORM-PETREL, SOOTY SHEARWATER, MANX SHEARWATER, 50 NORTHERN GANNETS, 1 PARASITIC JAEGER plus LAUGHING GULLS, 6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, ARCTIC and ROSEATE TERNS, and 1 RAZORBILL.
Notables at Capisic Pond included ORCHARD ORIOLE, WILLOW FLYCATCHER and WARBLING VIREO.
In east Kennebago there were 3 GRAY JAYS, 1 BICKNELL'S THRUSH, 10 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 10 BLACKPOLL and 1 CAPE MAY WARBLER.
Two COMMON NIGHTWAKS were seen flying over the fields at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth.
PRAIRIE WARBLERS, ALDER FLYCATHCER, BROAD-WINGED HAWK and a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO were seen along the power lines in Topsham.
The list from Brownfield Bog included five species of FLYCATCHERS, 3 species of VIREOS and 10 species of WARBLERS, plus WOOD DUCKS.
Central Maine
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was singing as of June 12 in an Orono yard.
A June 14 evening walk into the Penjajawoc Marsh produced a GREEN HERON, 2 SORAS, 3 VIRGINIA RAILS, 1 WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 1 SCARLET TANAGER, 1 INDIGO BUNTING, VEERY, and HERMIT and WOOD THRUSHES.
At Sunkhaze National Wildlife Refuge near Old Town there were 10 YELLOW- BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 1 GRAY JAY, and a PARULA WARBLER.
Seen this week in Millinocket were AMERICAN WOODCOCK, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, RING-BILLED GULL, and KILLDEER.
Northern Maine
In Houlton this week there were CANADA and MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS and SCARLET TANAGER.
Midcoast
In Warren there was a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO.
At Pemaquid there were 100 LAUGHING GULLS.
Eastern Maine
From the offshore whale watch boat out of Bar Harbor were abundant FULMARS, and GREATER SHEARWATERS, and 7 COMMON MURRES.
Off Petit Manan Island there were 2 MANX SHEARWATERS, 5- 10 PUFFINS and at sea were RED-THROATED LOON, GANNETS, GREAT CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON,and COMMON EIDER young. OSPREY numbers are down and the pair on Yellow Island nest failed due to summer residents arriving early at the cottage near the nest. Fish and wildlife banders discovered 4 PEREGRINE FALCON chicks on Precipice nest in Acadia National Park where there were believed to be only three. The usual breeding PASSERINES were seen elsewhere on Mt. Desert Island
An EASTERN MEADOWLARK has been present in the vicinity of the eagle nest near the intersection of Route 1 and the Charlotte Road in Calais the past two days. This is the first of this species that an experienced birder has seen in eastern Washington County for quite a few years. Also seen were a nesting COMMON LOON on Vose Pond, and a female VIRGINIA RAIL with six young at Upper Barn Meadow.
Birds seen at the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge in either the Baring or Edmunds Unit included: 16 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 4 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS, 5 GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHERS, 1 WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 15 SORA, 12 VIRGINIA RAILS, 2 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 3 MARSH WRENS, 2 GRAY JAYS, 2 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 1 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, 1 EASTERN MEADOWLARK, 2 WARBLING VIREOS, 30 CLIFF SWALLOWS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, HOODED and COMMON MERGANSERS, and WOOD DUCK.
An INDIGO BUNTING WAS SEEN IN Hanover.
