        The warbler, vireo, flycatcher etc migration so far seems to be
unremarkable.  No real rarities have been reported.  While there seems to be
a diversity of species, actual numbers have been low.
York County
        One hundred five species were tallied on Appledore Island.  A
sampling is BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, BOBOLINK, EASTERN KINGBIRD, RED-THROATED
LOON, BRANT, CHIMNEY SWIFT, COMMON NIGHT HAWK, SOLITARY and SPOTTED
SANDPIPER, and CAROLINA WREN.
A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was in Eliot.
A RED-THROATED LOON was in the York River.   At the York dump there was a
PRAIRIE WARBLER and a COMMON SNIPE.
        Six WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and a CATBIRD were found at Kennebunk
Beach. At Gooserocks the list included 15 SEMIPALMATED and 6 PIPING PLOVERS,
10 LEAST SANDPIPERS, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS.
Birds on note at Biddeford Pool included 12 BRANT, many GANNETS, SPOTTED,
LEAST and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, DUNLIN, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, PURPLE
SANDPIPERS RUDDY TURNSTONES, WILLETS, and GREATER, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
Greater Portland and western Maine
        A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen near Grondin Pond in Scarborough.
        In the Pine Point area there were BLACKPOLL, MOURNING, CANADA and
BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, AMERICAN REDSTART, SWAINSON’S THRUSH, RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINBIRDS, VEERY, ROSEATE and COMMON TERNS and a
VIRGINIA RAIL.  Along Eastern Road in Scarborough there were ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOW, 4 SCARLET TANAGERS, and WILSON’S and NASHVILLE WARBLERS.  Along
Broad Turn Road in Scarborough there were 2 SOLITARY and 26 LEAST SANDPIPERS.
At Broad Cove in Cape Elizabeth there were 2 CAROLINA WRENS, 2 RED-NECKED
GREBES, and an EASTERN KINGBIRD.
        A CAROLINA WREN, ORCHARD and BALTIMORE ORIOLES, SORA and VIRGINIA
RAIL were at Capisic Pond in Portland.
        At Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm there were 6 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS,
LINCOLN’S SPARROW, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, and BOBOLINKS.  Elsewhere in
Falmouth there was a Bobolink and a PRAIRIE WARBLER.
In Brunswick, there was a male and female BALTIMORE ORIOLE
Over in Casco birds sighted included BLACK-THROATED BLUE and NASHVILLE
WARBLER, a SCARLET TANAGER, and 2 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS on the same feeder.
This week in Wilton there were CANADA and MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, ROSE- BREASTED
GROSBEAKS, PINE SISKINS, EVENING GROSBEAKS and a GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER.
Midcoast
        In Phippsburg there was an ORCHARD ORIOLE, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and
BOBOLINK.
In Wiscasset 7 new arrivals  were BLACK AND WHITE, CAPE MAY, NORTHERN PARULA
and YELLOW WARBLERS and a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK
The following birds were seen on Samoset Rd. in Boothbay Harbor in the last
week: a small flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS, SWAMP SPARROW, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, a
LITTLE BLUE HERON many WARBLERS inlcuding, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW RUMPS,
NASHVILLE, COMMON YELLOW THROAT, BLACK AND WHITE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, OVEN
BIRD and PALM.
There was a considerable list from Monhegan this week.  Notables included
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, ORCHARD ORIOLE, and 12
species of WARBLERS.
Eastern Maine
Along  Punkinville Road in Sullivan there were 1 MAGNOLIA and 1 BLACK-
THROATED GREEN WARBLER, 1 BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD,
6 PINE SISKINS, and 10 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS.
On Mount Desert Island the PEREGRINES have hatched two chicks.  Also on MDI
there were EASTERN KINGBIRD, GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER, EASTERN TOWHEE, BLUE-
HEADED and RED-EYED VIREO and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.
Nine SAW-WHET OWLS and 9 WOODCOCK were seen along Route 9 in Washington
County.
In Machias there were GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a MERLIN.
Central Maine
        A WHIP POOR WILL was in Bowdoin.
        Good birds in Turner included 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 7 HORNED LARKS,
LEAST SANDPIPERS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, BOBOLINK, BROWN THRASHER and
LINCOLN’S and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS.
At the Augusta Arboretum there were RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, BROWN
THRASHER, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER,
13 species of WARBLERS and 3 species of VIREOS.   In Augusta there was
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW .
In Readfield/Mount Vernon, the following were reported: BLACKBURNIAN, BLACK-
THROATED BLUE and BLACK-THROATED-GREEN WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT,
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, WOOD THRUSH, ORCHARD and
BALTIMORE ORIOLE, SOLITARY SANDPIPER,  GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD.
Birds seen Sunday in Readfield/Fayette include: OVENBIRD, BLACK AND WHITE
WARBLER, BLACKBURNIANWARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK-
THROATED BLUE WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA WARBLER, NASHVILLE
WARBLER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, GRAY CATBIRD, VEERY, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, BROAD-
WINGED HAWK, ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, and UPLAND SANDPIPER
AN AMERICAN REDSTART, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, and VEERY were seen in the back
side of the marsh from Kanakolus Road, near the Unity College Wetlands on
Prairie road.
A BLUE-GRAY GNATCHTCHER was seen in Brooksvillle.
A Merlin was seen in Bangor.
Three PURPLE MARTINS were found in Newport.
In Dixmont there were LEAST and GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHERS, BOBOLINKS, VEERY
and several species of WARBLERS.
Twelve CHIMNEY SWIFTS were in Brewer.
Northern Maine
        Up in Houlton there were PARULA and NASHVILLE WARBLER, INDIGO
BUNTING, PINE SISKIN, and PURPLE FINCHES.
In Fort Kent with 5 inches of snow and still snowing there was a BLACK-
THROATED GREEN WARBLER.  Before the snow there was a PARULA WARBLER and 1
WILSON’S  WARBLER.

Saturday May 18 a WHITE-FACED IBIS was spotted by the Maine Audubon Birdathon
team at Pelreco in Scarborough.
