Arriving this week were GLOSSY IBIS, GREAT BLUE HERON, EASTERN
MEADOWLARK, PIPING PLOVER and PINE WARBLER. Migrating FOX SPARROWS were
mentioned in several reports. The waterfowl migration is relatively
unspectacular. Small numbers of waterfowl are present locally. SNOW GEESE
arrived at Scarborough marsh and elsewhere in the southern and central areas.
TURKEY VULTURES were very widely reported with a flock of 15 birds along the
Ferry road in  Saco being one of the larger groups. RAPTORS increased in
number,and BALD EAGLES were widely reported.
York County
      In Berwick, on Blackberry Hill Road were about 30 SNOW GEESE in
the cornfield near the train tracks. Also in Berwick were 40 HORNED LARKS.
      Sixteen AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 12 WOOD DUCKS, 6 KILLDEER, and a
MEADOWLARK were in York.
      A MEADOWLARK was at the Wells marsh. A PINE WARBLER was at Rachel
Carson in Wells.
      A BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was along Great Hill Road in Kennebunk. The
first PIPING PLOVER arrived at Goose Rocks.
      The Biddeford Pool survey found EASTERN MEADOWLARK, NORTHERN
FLICKER, AMERICAN WIGEON, RING-NECKED DUCK, and NORTHERN HARRIER. A
MEADOWLARK was at Hills Beach. Another MEADOWLARK was along Route 111 in
Biddeford. At the public boat launch off Route 9 in Biddeford there were 12
KILLDEER, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, and a KINGFISHER.
      A FOX SPARROW and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK were off the Ferry Road in
Saco.
Greater Portland and western Maine
      At Scarborough Marsh on the 24 two GLOSSY IBIS were seen behind
the Pelecro Building. Nine SNOW GEESE were seen flying over the river and
landing on the North bank. They were seen from the Co-op landing. One male
GREEN-WINGED TEAL was in a pool to the East of the Scarborough Marsh Nature
Center. At Dunstan Landing there was a NORTHERN SHOVELER, 1 NORTHERN PINTAIL
and several GREEN-WINGED TEAL. Six RING-NECKED DUCKS were on Grondin Pond.
On Prout's Pond off Pleasant Hill Road there were RING-NECKED DUCKS, and
COMMON and HOODED MERGANSERS.
      HORNED LARKS were on the strawberry fields in Cape Elizabeth.
      At Willard Beach in South Portland there was an ICELAND GULL.
      Three ICELAND and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS were at East End Beach in
Portland. A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS was on Capisic Pond.
      Nine EVENING GROSBEAKS and a FOX SPARROW were in Pownal.
      In South Casco there were EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and WILD TURKEYS.
      Ten COMMON REDPOLLS were found in Bridgeton.
      In Wilton this week there were RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, 100 COMMON REDPOLLS, 1 BOHEMIAN WAXWING, and a FOX SPARROW.
Midcoast
      There were a dozen HOODED MERGANSERS on the New Meadows River.
      A FOX SPARROW was in Phippsburg.
      Good birds seen in Georgetown included FOX SPARROW, AMERICAN
WOODCOCK, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and GREEN-WINGED TEAL.
      One HORNED LARK was in the parking lot of boat launch on Warf
Road in the town of South Blue Hill. Warf Road is right off Rt. 175.
      Two PIPING PLOVERS were seen at Seawall Beach, in Phippsburg on
Thursday morning, March 28.
      A RUFFED GROUSE was seen in Rockport.
      A BLACK-HEADED GULL was in Rockland.
      RING-NECKED DUCKS were on Chickawonke Lake.
      At Westkeag marsh there were: 45 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 NORTHERN
PINTAIL, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, KILLDEER, 1 GREAT BLUE HERON, and an
AMERICAN KESTREL.
      An ICELAND GULL was at Damariscotta Mills.
      One adult male NORTHERN HARRIER was seen flying over Great
Meadows in Sedgwick. The Meadow is located near the town sand pile on Rt.
172.
Eastern Maine
      A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS and 6 TURKEY VULTURES was seen on
Mount Desert Island.
      A pair of GREEN-WINGED TEAL were found in the southern most part of
Bagaduce River in Hancock County.
      About six BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen in Gouldsboro Roque Bluffs
and on the pond in the state park there were 1 GREATER SCAUP and 1 RING-
NECKED DUCK.  Also at that locality there was a flock of 30 PURPLE
SANDPIPERS.
      Six BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were along the Machias River across from
the Mobil.
      In Machias there were 16 COMMON REDPOLLS at a feeder. Also in
Machias there were PINE SISKIN, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, COOPER'S HAWK, and
COMMON REDPOLLS.
      SPRUCE GROUSE, 5 GRAY JAYS, and 3 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen
along the Burn Road in Topsfield.
Central Maine
      The list from Topsham included 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, COMMOM RAVEN and
HOODED MERGANSERS.
      In Turner this week there were KILLDEER and a SONG SPARROW.
      One HOARY and 25 COMMON REDPOLLS were in Augusta.
      A SNOW GOOSE and a CAROLINA WREN were found in Skowhegan.
      A KILLDEER was found in Unity.
      In the vicinity of Plymouth Pond were WOODCOCKS and RING-NECKED
DUCKS.
      At the Penjajawock marsh in Bangor there were 15 COMMON
MERGANSERS.
      At Maine Audubon's Fields Pond Nature Center in Orrington there were 40
COMMON REDPOLLS.
      Three male WOOD DUCKS along with 2 male and 1 female HOODED
MERGANSERS were on the Stillwater River in Old Town.
Northern Maine
      BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, 100 COMMON REDPOLLS and a WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW were in Houlton.
      The first ROBINS arrived in Ashland.
      COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in Fort Kent.
Additional birds later in the week include the first SNOWY EGRET at
Scarborouugh Marsh and an OPSREY over the Fore River in Portland
