An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was seen along the New Meadows road in Bath. The Portland CBC found a WESTERN GREBE. We do not have an extensive report of Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) to report. We understand that CBC reports are available on the web at birdsource.org. But, as of Wednesday only one Maine count was posted.
York County
The York County CBC recorded 72 species and 7963 birds counted, both the lowest numbers in past 20 years. This was in part due to snow developing midday and cutting visibility as well as suppressing activity. The species count has usually ranged between 75 and 80 and birds counted 10 to 14000. Numbers of gulls, scoters and starlings that often have been in the thousands decreased the count numbers especially. Canada geese were also much reduced. The much-anticipated influx of northern finches etc did not occur.
Outside of the count a COOPER'S HAWK was seen in York along with RAZORBILLS, BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and COMMON REDPOLLS.
A female RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and several COMMON REDPOLLS were at feeders 37 Mills Rd, Route 9 in Cape Porpoise.
Two WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at Kennebunk Beach.
