The SAGE THRASHER was under the benches at the Nubble at 12:30 pm on the
2nd.
Regarding Christmas counts. If you are a compiler please email your results,
for the bird alert, to Judy Walker at jwalker@maineaudubon.org. The Portland
Christmas Bird Count will be Saturday December 15 and the York County CBC
will be Monday December 17.
York County
At the Cliff House in Ogunquit there were PURPLE SANDPIPERS, HARLEQUIN
DUCKS, 1 KING EIDER and 68 NORTHERN GANNETS.
A partially albino RED-TAILED HAWK was reported in Kittery, around the
corner from the Kittery Trading Post on Picott Road. The bird has been seen
for several weeks now.
A lingering COMMON GRACKLE was at Kennebunk Beach.
At Biddeford Pool this week there were 100 DUNLIN, 50 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS,
2 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 4 SANDERLINGS, 6 NORTHERN GANNETS, and 40 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS.
Two PINE GROSBEAKS were at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
Greater Portland and western Maine
At the Scarborough industrial park there was a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, 1
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, and a FOX SPARROW. Along Eastern Road there were 5
COMMON REDPOLLS. On Prout's Pond off Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough there
were 20 RUDDY DUCKS, 10 COOT, 1 SNOW GOOSE and a HOODED MERGANSER.
At Chancellor Gardens in Cape Elizabeth there were 20 BOHEMIAN and a few
CEDAR WAXWINGS. A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was at Two Lights. A RED-THROATED
LOON was at Kettle Cove. At Spurwink Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth there were
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS.
A SNOWY OWL was at Back Cove in Portland. Over at Capisic Pond there were 5
HOODED MERGANSERS and a BALTIMORE ORIOLE.
Off Mackworth Island in Falmouth there were 3 GREATER SCAUP. Two unconfirmed
WESTERN GREBES were reported off Mackworth. Also seen in Falmouth was a late
EATERN TOWHEE.
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen on Chebeague Island.
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and COMMON REDPOLLS were in Cumberland.
Fifteen WILD TURKEYS were in Pownal.
In Bridgton this week there was a FOX SPARROW.
In Fryeburg there was a NORTHERN HARRIER and 50 COMMON REDPOLLS.
The list from Wilton included: BALD EAGLE, SHARP-SHINNED and RED-TAILED
HAWK, 1 ROBIN, 14 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 2 PINE GROSBEAKS 12 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
and 50 COMMON REDPOLLS.
Four COMMON LOONS and a WILD TURKEY were in Weld.
Midcoast
Twenty PINE GROSBEAKS were seen in Brunswick.
A CAROLINA WREN was in Georgetown.
A COMMON GRACKLE was in Phippsburg, along with 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 12
HOODED MERGANSER, and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD.
A SNOWY OWL was seen in Northport.
Eastern Maine
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was in Dennysville.
At Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge there were 150 COMMON REDPOLLS.
In Topsfield this week there was 1 male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 2 male and
1 female SPRUCE GROUSE, 5 GRAY JAYS, 7 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 10 PINE GROSBEAKS,
and 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS. The Topsfield CBC will be held December 15th.
Twelve COMMON REDPOLLS were seen feeding in clumps of gray birch in
Bancroft. Also an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE was in a different area of Bancroft.
Central Maine
The list in Turner included: 100 HORNED LARKS, 70 COMMON REDPOLLS, 1 PINE
GROSBEAK and 2 SNOW BUNTINGS.
WHITE-THROATED and TREE SPARROWS were in Richmond along with COMMON RAVENS,
GREAT HORNED OWL and a BALD EAGLE.
A BALD EAGLE soared above the Sebasticook River in Benton this morning.
Four EVENING GROSBEAKS were in Dixmont.
In Bangor there were 25 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and a BALD EAGLE.
Over in Brewer there were 15 PINE GROSBEAKS.
Northern Maine
The list from Houlton this week included: FOX SPARROW, 3 PINE SISKINS, a
pair of CARDINALS, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, PINE GROSBEAKS and JUNCOS.
PINE GROSBEAKS were in Fort Kent.
