A WESTERN TANAGER was seen in the Cushing area. Another WESTERN TANAGER was found on Monhegan Island along with 2 CLAY-COLORED and a LARK SPARROW, CONNECTICUT and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, BLUE GROSBEAK, and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. Two LARK SPARROWS were found at the Sanford sewage treatment plant on the first. On Roque Island there was an ALDER FLYCATCHER. A CASPIAN TERN was at Popham Beach.
Maine Audubon Society's annual Fall Gulf of Maine Pelagic trip from 6am-1pm out of Bar Harbor, Maine aboard the Friendship V jet-powered catamaran visited the waters around Mt. Desert Rock (~25 miles offshore) and the southern Grand Manan banks (~ 70 miles east of Bar Harbor) and recorded the following: 1 RED-THROATED LOON, 65 NORTHERN FULMARS, 1 GREAT SKUA, 2 SOOTY, 130 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 2 LEACH'S PETRELS, 86 NORTHERN GANNETS, 10 GREAT CORMORANTS, 1 PEREGRINE, 1 MERLIN, 1 KESTREL, 7 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 SANDERLING, 300 RED and 35 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES plus 35 unidentified PHALAROPES, 1 POMARINE JAEGER, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, 11 ATLANTIC PUFFINS, and 2 RAZORBILLS.
York County
At Laudholm Farm in Wells, there were BLACKPOLL WARBLER and 1 SAW-WHET OWL. On the Little River marsh there was a GREAT EGRET, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1 WHIMBREL, 2 WILLETS, DOWITCHERS, and on the beach there were SANDERLINGS.
In Berwick there was a small flight of WARBLERS which included: NORTHERN PARULA, 4 YELLOW-RUMPED, 2 PALM, 6 BLACKPOLLS, 1 MAGNOLIA, 1 NASHVILLE, 2 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, and 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. Other birds included: SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 2 SWAMP and many WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.
A at the Sanford treatment plant there were 24 CANADA GEESE, 10-15 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 50+ GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 10 HOODED MERGANSERS, 4 NORTHERN PINTAIL, and a male GREATER SCAUP. Also seen were 2 SOLITARY, 2 SPOTTED and 1 STILT SANDPIPER, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 4 GREATER, and 20 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
Scarborough Marsh Area
At Scarborough marsh this past week there were 2 lingering GLOSSY IBIS, 6 SNOWY and 2 GREAT EGRETS, 1 MERLIN, and 1 SAVANNAH "IPSWICH" SPARROW. Behind the Pelreco building at Pine Point there were 1 TRICOLORED HERON, 6 GREATER and 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 MERLIN, and 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD. On Pine Point Beach there was a WESTERN SANDPIPER, 1 DUNLIN, and 12 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS.
Greater Portland and western Maine
A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen in Cape Elizabeth.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at the Willowdale section of Portland. At Spurwink Cemetery there were WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 20 to 30 DARK-EYED JUNCOS. At Back Cove in Portland there were 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and a WHIMBREL. At Evergreen Cemetery there was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, a CAROLINA and a WINTER WREN, and 2 SWAINSON'S THRUSH.
In Sebago there was a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and 6 HOODED MERGANSERS. Good birds in Fryeburg this week included RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, HERMIT THRUSH, SAVANNAH and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, AMERICAN PIPITS, and others.
Midcoast
In Georgetown there was a SNOWY EGRET and 1 GRAY-CHEEKED and 1 HERMIT THRUSH.
At Popham Beach in Phippsburg there was a DUNLIN and a SANDERLING.
Eastern Maine
GRAY JAYS and BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen in Indian Township.
On Roque Island there were STILT SANDPIPER, NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW, SPRUCE GROUSE, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE
Central Maine
The list from Turner included 50 AMERICAN PIPITS, 35 HORNED LARKS, 1 GOLDEN PLOVER, 1 VESPER SPARROW, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
In Waterville this week there were 15 AMERICAN PIPITS, 2 NORTHERN PARULA and 1 PALM WARBLERS, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, and 1 SWAINSON'S THRUSH.
A NASHVILLE and a YELLOW WARBLER were seen in Winslow.
On Sebasticook Lake there were 2 SOLITARY, 1 PECTORAL and 1 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 4 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, 4 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 20 BLUE-WINGED and 150 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and a RED-NECKED GREBE.
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were in Dixmont.
The following species were found at the Penjajawoc Marsh in Bangor on the 30th: 4 MARSH WRENS, 1 LEAST BITTERN, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, BLUE-WINGED and GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and 6 GREAT BLUE HERONS.
A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was seen at the Fields Pond Nature Center in Orrington.
A pair of CAROLINA WRENS appeared at an Orono feeder.
Northern Maine
In Houlton there were GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, and a WOOD THRUSH.
In Fort Kent there were COMMON LOONS, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and DARK EYED JUNCOS.
