A group of 8 CASPIAN TERNS flew over Biddeford Pool September 20, early in
the morning heading south. A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen on Monhegan
Island. A SNOWY EGRET was seen in Wilton.
York County
A lingering RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was seen in York.
At the Sanford treatment plant there was a PIED-BILLED GREBE, both
BLUE-WINGED and GREEN-WINGED TEAL, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW and many
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
In North Berwick, a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was in a yard.
A BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a NORTHERN TOWHEE were at Laudholm Farm in Wells.
Three BLUE-WINGED TEAL and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were at Fortune's Rocks in
Biddeford. Several distant SHEARWATERS were off Eastern Point also in
Biddeford. At the Hills Beach Section of Biddeford Pool there were 25
LAUGHING GULLS, 10 RED KNOTS, 1 PIPING PLOVER, 150 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 1
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLETS, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, 2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, and 4 COMMON TERNS.
Near Eastern Point at the Pool there were 1 CAROLINA WREN, numerous
RED-EYED, 1 WARBLING and 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO plus several species of
WARBLERS. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was near the golf course. In the pool there
were GREEN-WINGED TEAL and several species of SHOREBIRDS, plus SNOWY EGRETS
and LITTLE BLUE HERONS. Several species of WARBLERS and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW
were off the Ferry Road in Saco. Four RED-NECKED GREBES were at the Bay View
section of Saco.
Scarborough Marsh Area
At Pine Point there was a LITTLE GULL and 25 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 239
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, a RED-THROATED LOON, 3 GREAT EGRETS, 12 SNOWY
EGRETS, AMERICAN PIPITS, RED-EYED and BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD and 200 SHOREBIRDS which included: 40+ BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS,
30+ GREATER YELLOWLEGS, several dozen SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, a few
SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, 3 WILLET and 3 DOWITCHERS. Dunstan Landing also had a
GREEN HERON, YELLOW-RUMPED and MAGNOLIA WARBLER, SONG and SWAMP SPARROW,
EASTERN WOOD PEWEE and EASTERN PHOEBE. A RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was in
the Willowdale section of Scarborough.
Greater Portland and western Maine
In Evergreen Cemetery there was either a BICKNELL'S or GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH,
2 SWAINSON'S and 1 HERMIT THRUSH.
In Bridgton there was a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 1 TUFTED TITMOUSE, a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a PURPLE FINCH.
On Hemlock Bridge Road in Fryeburg, along the Old Course of the Saco there
were; 1WILD TURKEY, 29 NORTHERN FLICKERS, 1 GREAT BLUE HERON, 1
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, and 8 PALM WARBLERS.
GRAY JAYS were seen on Bigelow Mountain.
In Wilton this past week there was an ORANGE-CROWNED and other WARBLERS,
BARRED OWL, COOPER'S HAWK, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and 20
EVENING GROSBEAKS.
Midcoast
Four BALD EAGLES and 2 TURKEY VULTURES were over Merry Meeting Bay.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and a WINTER WREN were seen on Morse Mountain in
Phippsburg. In Thomaston, an adult male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was about
100 yards down the Jack Williams trail from Beachwood Street in a large dead
Monhegan Island
On Monhegan there were 4 LARK and 2 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS, 2 YELLOW-BREASTED
CHATS, 1 DICKCISSEL, AMERICAN PIPITS, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, BOBOLINK, and 17
species of WARBLERS including ORANGE-CROWNED.
Central Maine
In Unity there were 2 TURKEY VULTURES and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were
in Dixmont.
 Northern Maine
 The list from Houlton this past week included: SHARP-SHINNED HAWK,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and several species of WARBLERS.
In Fort Kent this week there were WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, BOREAL
CHICKADEES, 80 CANADA GEESE, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and a BARRED OWL.
