York County
A CAROLINA WREN was heard singing at Kennebunk Beach, while six COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS were seen flying over.
A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen in Biddeford Pool along with WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, 1 RED KNOT, and lots of peeps. Seen at Hills Beach were: 2
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, ROSEATTE TERN, COMMON TERN, 1 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER, RUDDY TURNSTONES, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, LEAST and SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 5 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, and a BLACK TERN.
Fourteen UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at the Sanford Regional Airport. The
following birds were seen at the Sanford Sewage Treatment Plant: 50 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 55 LEAST SANDPIPER,
7 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 3 KILLDEER, 1 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER, and a pair of WOOD DUCK with young birds.
BOBOLINKS were heard migrating through Old Orchard Beach.
Scarborough Marsh area
2 STILT SANDPIPERS were seen on Eastern Road along with 2 LITTLE BLUE
HERONS. Seen in the Marsh were: 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 1 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, 3 GLOSSY IBIS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 4 SNOWY EGRETS, and 1 WILSON'S
PHALAROPE. On Pine Point Beach the following birds were seen: 1 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, 1 PIPING PLOVER, 9 GREAT EGRETS, and 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS.
Out on Stratton Island there were 9 WHIMBREL, 1 STILT SANDPIPER,
SANDERLINGS, RUDDY TURNSTONES, and 1 LEACH'S STORM-PETREL.
Greater Portland
Six SNOWY EGRETS and 9 YELLOWLEGS were seen in Back Cove in Portland. Two
GREEN HERONS were seen in Evergreen Cemetery.
Central Maine
In Turner, the following birds were seen: 1 MERLIN, 2 AMERICAN KESTRALS,
PINE MARTINS, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, and WHIP-POOR-WHILLS.
Ten species of warblers were seen in Belgrade, and 9 species of warblers
were seen on Waterville.
On August 18 a MERLIN was seen at Lambert Lake in northern Washington
County.
On August 19, at the Penjajawoc Marsh in Bangor, the following birds were
seen: a GREAT EGRET, 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 1 BROAD-WINGED HAWK, 1 NOTHERN
HARRIER, 3 OSPREY, 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, and a COMMON MOORHEN was heard.
A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Dixmont.
Eastern Maine
Five GRAY JAYS, 3 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 1 hen SPRUCE GROUSE, and 1 OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER were seen on The Burn Road, on Baskahegan Land, in Topsfield.
A RED-THROATED LOON in partial summer plumage was seen off Ironbound Island
on the 16th.
450 GREATER SHEARWATER and WILSON'S STORM -PETRELS were seen from CAT ferry
to Nova Scotia.
SOOTY SHEARWATERS and LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS have been seen daily from whale
watching boats- SE of Mt. Desert Rock.
NORTHERN GANNETS were seen daily in Frenchman Bay and from whale watch
boats.
GREAT CORMORANTS have bee seen daily along Ocean Drive in Acadia National
Park, and on Bar Harbor Breakwater, during past week. PEREGRINE FALCONS have
been seen daily along Ocean Drive, in Acadia.
4 adult BALD EAGLES, and 1 immature have been seen daily around Frenchman
Bay. BONAPARTE'S GULLS numbers have increased this week but still only 10 -
20 are being seen.
A STILT SANDPIPER and 25 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were seen in Machiasport.
Two WHIMBRELS were seen on Roque Island.
In Township 18, north of Columbia Falls near the airbase, the following
birds were seen: 1 RUFF, 1 CURLEW SANDPIPER, and a WESTERN SANDPIPER.
A MERLIN was seen in Charlotte, and a GREAT EGRET was seen in Eastport.
Four COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen in Perry.
Northern Maine
A MAGNOLIA WARBLER, COMMON LOON, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, NORHTERN
HARRIER, and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were seen in Fort Kent.
The list from Houlton included 1 BOBWHITE, COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, EASTERN
PHOEBE, and AMERICAN KESTRAL.
