The NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still present in Sidney. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
was at the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge on Route 1. An early CHIPPING SPARROW was
seen at Pemaquid. DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS increased their numbers slightly
this past week as did EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, KILLDEER and a few other species.
Most of the ponds in the southwestern portion of the state are still frozen
over and cornfields which attract waterfowl still have significant snow
cover.

York County

At Fort Foster in Kittery this week there were 4 HOODED MERGANSERS, 2 WOOD
DUCKS, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, and a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER.

A THICK-BILLED MURRE and a HARLEQUIN DUCK were at the Nubble Light in York.

Sixteen HARLEQUIN DUCKS were at the Cliff House in Ogunquit.

Twenty TURKEY VULTURES were in Kennebunk near Route 95.

A SAW-WET OWL was heard calling in North Berwick and a NORTHERN SHRIKE was
seen near a feeder.

There were 2 NORTHERN PINTAIL at Wells marsh. In Wells Harbor there were 10
PINTAIL, 1 GREAT BLUE HERON, 1 TURKEY VULTURE, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, and
several KILLDEER. Along Drake's Island Road there were 1 COMMON and 8 HOODED
MERGANSERS.

At Biddeford Pool this week there were PURPLE SANDPIPERS, a NORTHERN GANNET,
and BRANT.

Off the Boom Road in Saco there were WOOD DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS,
RING-NECKED DUCKS, NORTHERN PINTAILS AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 5 EASTERN
MEADOWLARKS, and an AMERICAN KESTREL. Along the Ferry Road in Saco there was
a CAROLINA WREN, PURPLE FINCHES, and a FOX SPARROW. On Saco River across
from Laurel Hill there were 20 WOOD DUCKS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, several
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, numerous CANADA GEESE, and KILLDEER.

Scarborough Marsh Area

An AMERICAN WOODCOCK was at Dunstan Landing in Scarborough. There were 10
species of DUCKS at Dunstan this week, plus 4 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 42 SNOW
GEESE, 1 FOX SPARROW, HORNED LARKS and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR in breeding
plumage. The list from Scarborough marsh over the last week included 46 SNOW
GEESE and 1"BLUE" SNOW GOOSE, 1 GREAT BLUE HERON, 12 NORTHERN PINTAIL,
EASTERN MEADOWLARK, HORNED LARK, BELTED KINGFISHER, and several GREEN-WINGED
TEAL. Behind the Pelreco building at Pine Point there were 3 EASTERN
MEADOWLARK and a GREAT BLUE HERON. A male RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was seen on
Beech Ridge Road in Scarborough, across from Beech Ridge Farm. At the
Scarborough industrial park there was a NORTHERN SHRIKE. Off Ash Swamp Road
there was a FOX SPARROW and a RING-NECKED PHEASANT.

Greater Portland and western Maine

Six AMERICAN WOODCOCK were in the Capisic pond area of Portland near Lucas
Street. At the treatment plant in Portland there was a LAUGHING GULL.

In Cumberland this week there were FOX SPARROW, 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 5
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER.

HOODED MERGANSERS were seen in Cumberland and Yarmouth.

A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at a feeder in Pownal.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK and 3 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS were in Wilton.

A COMMON MERGANSER was seen in Jay.

Midcoast

Two GREAT BLUE HERONS were in Georgetown along with 12 PINE SISKINS.

Seen at Pemaquid this week were 3 THICK-BILLED MURRES, 25 RAZORBILLS, and
BLACK GUILLEMOTS. Other birds included FOX and TREE SPARROWS and PURPLE
SANDPIPERS.

A LESSER SCAUP and a COMMON MERGANSER were at Damariscotta Mills.

Birds on Westport Island included 6 PURPLE FINCHES, 6 PINE SISKINS, and 2
FOX SPARROWS. On Oyster Creek, in Nobleboro there were 15 WOOD DUCKS, 3
RING-NECK DUCKS, and 6 HOODED MERGANSERS.

In Long Cove, Chamberlain there were 3 NORTHERN PINTAILS.

At Westkeag marsh in Thomaston there were 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 6 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

At Owl's Head airport there were 50 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and a NORTHERN
HARRIER.

In Camden this week there were PURPLE FINCHES, SONG and TREE SPARROWS and
CEDAR WAXWINGS.

A BLACK-HEADED GULL was in Rockland behind the Baptist Church on Samoset
Drive.

Central Maine

A KILLDEER and a COMMON GRACKLE were seen in Turner.

An AMERICAN WOODCOCK was seen in Richmond.

Two EVENING GROSBEAKS were in Belgrade.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE and 13 SNOW GEESE were seen in Sidney.

In Litchfield there are about 12 WILD TURKEYS. A BARRED OWL was also heard
in this area.

Ten SNOW GEESE were in Oakland, and 24 SNOW GEESE were in Clinton.

At Shamut Dam in Fairfield there were 2 WOOD DUCKS, 8 TREE SPARROWS and 2
SONG SPARROWS.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was in Dixmont.

In Bangor this week there were 120 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS.

An AMERICAN WOODCOCK was seen near the Bangor High School.

A WILD TURKEY was seen in Bradley, and 2 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in
Holden.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE at the intersection of Wiswell and Green Point Roads in
Brewer.

Eastern Maine

In Trenton there was a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a NORTHERN HARRIER.

Northern Maine

The list from Houlton this week included: BOHEMIAN WAXWING, PINE SISKINS,
PURPLE FINCHES, and HOODED MERGANSERS.

 Six SNOW BUNTINGS and a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD were found in Presque Isle.

Thirteen PURPLE FINCHES were seen in Fort Kent.
