The NORTHERN HAWK OWL was present in one of the maple trees on the corner of
Goodhue and Tiffany Road on Sunday in Sidney on March 4, 2001.
York County
Bird sightings at Kittery Point included 1 immature NORTHERN SHRIKE and 2
GREAT CORMORANTS. On Sea Point Beach were 12 AMERICAN PIPITS foraging in and
around the washed up sea lettuce and 30 BRANT in the north cove just north
of the point.
At the Nubble Light in York there was a THICK-BILLED MURRE, 1 RED-NECKED
GREBE, 4 DOVKIES.  Also in York at the Cliff House there were 15 or so
HARLEQUIN DUCKS, and BLACK GUILLEMOT.
There was a pair of HARLEQUIN DUCKS at East Point and 4 BRANT at Biddeford
pool.
Behind the Salmon Club in Saco there was a drake BARROWS GOLDENEYE.
Greater Portland and western Maine
At Scarborough Marsh the following birds were seen: two COMMON and 3 HOODED
MERGANSERS, many COMMON EIDER, COMMON GOLDENEYE, RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS,
and CANADA GEESE.
This week at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth there was 1 GREAT
CORMORANT.  At Portland Head Light there were 2 PIED-BILLED GEBES and
2  RAZORBILLS.
Two Carolina WRENS were seen off Forest Ave, in Portland at a feeder.
A BARRED OWL was seen on Ledgewood Drive in Yarmouth.
A NORTHERN PINTAIL was down at Land's End in Harpswell.
An AMERICAN KESTRAL was seen in Auburn off the Maine Turnpike.
Central Maine
On the Penobscot River in Bangor, there were 2 ICELAND GULLS, one adult and
one first-winter bird.
Seven CEDAR and a small flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were in Orono.
Thiry SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in Manchester on Old Belgrade Road.
Midcoast
At Hog Island and vicinity there were 15 PURPLE FINCH. Near the Bremen town
office there were 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS.
There were about 400 RUDDY DUCKS at Fort Point Cove in Stockton Springs on
Saturday 3/3/01. They were in 2 groups and way out. Directions: Take the
East Cape Rd. onto Cape Jellison and just where the road turns 90 degrees
there is a small gravel parking lot on left (just to the right of a house
and garage) with great views of the cove.
A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen at Stinson factory at Prospect Harbor
on March 4. They were team hunting, male flushed pigeons from roof, female
came from other direction and took one pigeon. Both birds plucked and ate it
on rocks along shore. Gulls and crows ignored the hunting and then feeding
peregrines. Included with the gulls were 4 GLAUCOUS and 6 ICELAND GULLS.
There were 50+ NORTHEN GANNETS along Ocean Drive Acadia National Park on
March 7th.
Ten plus AMERICAN ROBINS were at feeders in Bar Harbor, along with 8 PURPLE
FINCH, 25+ GOLDFINCH, 2 HOUSE FINCH, and 6 TREE SPARROWS. Also in Bar
Harbor, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES have begun courting.

people have been asking for detailed information on where to see a bird and
