A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen in Ogunquit on 2/24/01 at 1:45 PM in the parking lot next to the Ogunquit wastewater treatment plant. It had the markings of a 2nd year bird. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still present in Sidney. The EASTERN TOWHEE continues to be seen at Goose Rocks.
York County
In York this week there were 75 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 1 FOX SPARROW, 1 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, 5 PURPLE FINCHES, 2 BROWN CREEPERS, and a TURKEY VULTURE.
Twenty HARLEQUIN DUCKS were at the Cliff House in Ogunquit.
A BALD EAGLE was seen in Kennebunk. Twelve HORNED LARKS were at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunk.
A PINE GROSBEAK and 10 CEDAR WAXWINGS were found in Old Orchard.
Three HORNED LARKS were in Dayton.
Greater Portland and western Maine
A COMMON GRACKLE and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were seen at the Scarborough Industrial Park. Four HOODED and a pair of COMMON MERGANSERS were at Scarborough marsh. A RED-WINGED BLACK BIRD was along the Ash Swamp Road in Scarborough.
At Two Lights State Park, Cape Elizabeth, there were 5 GREAT CORMORANTS, 2 BLACK GUILLEMONTS, and 1 RAZORBILL. A BALD EAGLE and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were at Ram Island Farm in Cape Elizabeth.
DARK EYED JUNCOS were in Stroudwater.
A PURPLE FINCH was in Gorham.
A PHEASANT and a BALD EAGLE were seen in Falmouth.
Forty-five PURPLE FINCHES were at a feeder in Freeport. A BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was in South Freeport.
PINE SISKINS were in Bridgton.
Over by Flagstaff Lake three were 50 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 50 PINE SISKINS.
Central Maine
Twenty-four CEDAR WAXWINGS were found in Lewiston.
Four SNOW BUNTINGS and a CARDINAL were seen in Turner.
In North New Portland there were lots of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, PINE SISKINS, a few GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS and PURPLE FINCHES.
PURPLE FINCHES were found in Belgrade.
Three WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Sidney.
Ninety CEDAR WAXWINGS were on the Colby College campus in Waterville. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen elsewhere in Waterville.
Four PURPLE FINCHES were in Dixmont.
On Feb. 21, there were 8 SNOW BUNTINGS in fields at Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife offices, Bangor. A BALD EAGLE was seen elsewhere in Bangor.
Midcoast
A NORTHERN SHRIKE and 6 PINE SISKINS were in Georgetown.
An AMERICAN WIGEON was near Damariscotta Mills.
Two BOBWHITE were seen near Appleton Ridge.
A PINE SISKIN and EVENING GROSBEAKS were in Camden.
In South Thomaston there was the OREGON variety of the DARK-EYED JUNCO.
A BLACK-HEADED GULL was near the Baptist church in Rockland.
Two RAZORBILLS were at Pemaquid.
An ICELAND GULL was in Belfast Harbor.
Thirty PURPLE SANDPIPERS were found in East Boothbay.
On Monhegan Island this week there were 3 BALD EAGLES, 20 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 2 SNOW BUNTINGS, and CEDAR WAXWINGS.
Eastern Maine
PURPLE FINCHES were seen in Bar Harbor.
Twenty-five EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Dennysville.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in East Machias.
A pair of BALD EAGLES were at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge near Calais.
Good birds in Topsfield this week include 90 PURPLE FINCHES, 80 EVENING GROSBEAKS, and 5 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS at the feeders.
Northern Maine
In the Chamberlain Lake area there were 100's of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, a few BOREAL CHICKADEES, and GRAY JAYS.
Lots of PINE SISKINS, EVENING GROSBEAKS, SNOW BUNTINGS, and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen around areas of Aroostook County.
The list from Houlton this week included: 2 HORNED LARKS, 12 EVENING GROSBEAKS, and SNOW BUNTINGS.
In Fort Kent this week there were 12 EVENING GROSBEAKS and PURPLE FINCHES.
EVENING GROSBEAKS and PINE SISKINS were sighted in Portage.
A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK was found in Caribou.
