The Annual Book Fund is used entirely to by materials for the "collection." We have renamed it from the Annual Fund to the Annual Book Fund to reflect the acutal use of the donations. Donations to the Fund are the major source of support for the Library to buy books, audiobooks, music, periodicals and reference materials. All donations to Curtis Memorial Library are tax deductible. In November, the Board of Directors launched its Annual Book Fund to buy books: Fiction, Nonfiction, Audio Books, Large Print Books, along with the periodicals and the audio/visual materials that make the Library’s collection one of the best in Maine. Formerly called the Annual Fund, the Annual Book Fund was renamed to more clearly reflect the reason for the appeal. Books are the lifeblood of any public library, and Curtis Memorial Library patrons deserve, and demand, the current titles and the most timely reference sources. Curtis Memorial Library is truly a vibrant community hub which provides Brunswick and Harpswell citizens with inspiration, information and connections they need to help live fulfilling lives and to embrace the future. The library is a destination for people in all walks of life and all socioeconomic groups. There are no financial or social barriers to using the library, and Curtis Memorial Library is consistently in the top three Maine libraries for circulation with over 350,000 items loaned last year. The success of the Annual Book Fund will lead directly to improved resources critical to the library’s service to the community. The Annual Book Fund appeal may add to the volume in your mailbox, but the request is sincere, and the need is real.
