Annual Fund
2006-2007

October, 2006

This fall is a season of many changes at Curtis Memorial Library. Yet I find myself focusing on one ever-consistent need: books. I am writing to ask for your support of the 2006-07 Annual Fund. The Library uses the Annual Fund entirely to build collections – the books, DVDs, and audio materials that are in such demand by our Library users. Our patrons checked out nearly 350,000 items last year, up over 11% from the year before, and up 57% over five years. This increase in lending is nothing short of astounding and is the direct result of generous donations.

As you may know, our Library director of 18 years, Steve Podgajny, left in February.  A committee is currently conducting a national search to fill the director’s position, and we are confident of finding a new leader who will build on the Library’s strengths to take us into the future.

Meanwhile Curtis has experienced a practically seamless transition with superb interim leadership. Three extremely well-qualified members of the current Curtis staff, Pam Jenkins, the acting director, Janet Fullerton and Mike Heath, have taken over the helm in exemplary fashion. By all measures, the Library is thriving.

The need for the Library to expand collections to meet the dramatic increase in demand is compelling.  Every dollar you give -- this year and every year -- goes to this single purpose. We are grateful for last year’s Annual Fund gift and hope this year that you will make another generous donation.

We are pleased to announce that a $5,000 lead gift has been donated by Sitelines, PA, a local civil engineering firm that is proud to share with a community that has helped it prosper. We hope you, too, will celebrate the importance of the Library in your life and in our community by making your generous tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund today.

Sincerely,

Deborah M. Schall
Chair, Development Committee
