Guest Website Hosting Policy
This Policy sets forth the terms and conditions by which Curtis Memorial Library provides limited website hosting for organizations based in Brunswick or Harpswell. In addition to the library’s own web pages, the Library may host a website only if the site belongs to:
- A department of the Town of Brunswick or Town of Harpswell that is officially recognized by the Brunswick Town Council, Town Manager or Harpswell Board of Selectmen and that has a recognized department head appointed by the Town Manager or Board of Selectmen;
- A board, commission or committee of the Town of Brunswick or Town of Harpswell that is officially recognized by the Brunswick Town Council or Harpswell Board of Selectmen and to which appointments are made by the Town Council and/or Town Manager or Harpswell Board of Selectmen; or
- An organization that is officially supported or funded by the Town of Brunswick or Town of Harpswell.
These organizational limitations do not apply to websites hosted by the Library as of May 19, 2005.
An organization desiring the library to host its website must contact the library Director, who shall determine whether the organization satisfies the requirements of this Policy. In the event that a proposed website does not meet all requirements of this policy, the library Director may allow the site to be hosted by the library only if he determines in his or her sole discretion that the content of the proposed site is not political, religious, or inappropriate for a general audience and that the site conveys information beneficial to the general public.
Any organization that has a website hosted by the library must execute a signed Website Hosting Agreement that incorporates the requirements of this policy, a General Release of any and all liability that might arise in connection with hosting of the organization’s website and the names, telephone numbers, mailing addresses, and e-mail addresses of primary and secondary contact people.
The library is not able to provide more than very basic website support and assistance on a limited, time-available basis. The library is willing to provide hosted organizations with user names and passwords to access the library’s community website in order for the organization to maintain its own pages. If the library authorizes a hosted organization to upload website files, the organization must use utmost care with respect to all files and sites maintained on the Community website.
The library Director in his or her own discretion may decide at any time not to host a proposed website or not to continue to host an existing website if he or she determines that staff availability is inadequate to host the website. The library Director in his or her sole discretion may terminate website hosting privileges and remove the web pages of an organization for any violation of this policy or for any other reason deemed in the library’s best interests.
