We’re looking for a friendly, tech-savvy individual to provide great service to patrons of all ages. Primary responsibilities include basic reference and readers’ advisory, helping customers find and use library resources, and maintaining collections and displays.

Candidate must have proficiency with automated library systems and with online search tools and strategies; enthusiasm for technology and a comfort level with various applications and software including MS Office; a passion for reading and talking about books; and a Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and/or experience.

This is a full-time position with benefits, some regular evening and weekend hours required. Pay rate is $13.94/hr. Position begins January 11.

Nature of Work

Welcomes patrons and sets the tone for a great library experience. Provides basic reference and readers’ advisory services via phone, email, and in-person. Proactively assists patrons in finding and using library resources, and maintains collections and displays. Work is performed with some independent judgment and initiative.


Primary Responsibilities

Engages patrons in conversations about the programs and services available at the library

Assists patrons in finding and selecting books and other resources

Offers meaningful recommendations of books and movies

Creates and refreshes displays and keeps them looking neat and appealing

May participate in selection and maintenance of the library collection in designated areas

May present library programs and activities

Places holds and interlibrary loans; provides instruction in using the library catalog

Assists patrons with basic computer needs including printing, computer passes, email, social media, Microsoft Office applications, and online resources

Assists patrons with downloading e-books and audio books and with copy machines

Provides basic reference assistance and instruction, including use of Marvel database

Provides Meeting Room orientation and assistance with AV equipment

Opens and closes designated areas. Ensures a safe and positive environment for patrons



Customer-focused and friendly

Ability to effectively communicate ideas and thoughts both verbally and in writing

Ability to adapt to changing needs and to recognize and set priorities

Ability to use resources and current library and office technologies relevant to the job duties, including Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge and skill in digital literacy, including basic online search tools and strategies and downloading e-books and audiobooks

Familiarity with a variety of authors and literature

Ability to use diplomacy and tact to establish and maintain relationships with library patrons and employees

Ability to perform tasks requiring some bending, lifting, pushing, and walking; sufficient manual dexterity, ability to speak, and vision to perform job-specific tasks

Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends and evenings which may change periodically

Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and/or experience
