Friday Film Series: Hero Worship Hollywood Style

lex-luthor-defeats-supermanEach month, we’ll watch a different movie that asks, “What makes a person a hero”?

Superman (1978)

Time & Date: Friday, October 4, 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Location: The Library’s Morrell Meeting Room

Did you know that Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, then students at Cleveland’s Glenville High School, first conceived the title character of this week’s film as a bald telepathic villain bent on world domination?

Superman was of course eventually re-envisioned as more of a hero in the mythic tradition, inspired by such characters as Samson and Hercules, who would right the wrongs of Siegel and Shuster’s times, fighting for social justice and against tyranny.

NOTE: This is an “after hours” event so please enter via the Morrell Meeting Room entrance on Middle Street.

We all have our little faults. Mine’s in California.
