Fall Tech 2013 Meetup Schedule

mainCurtis Memorial Library’s Tech Meetup series, part demo and part information exchange, continues this fall with sessions focusing on various aspects of using technology in our daily lives.

September 13 — Let’s go to the Movies
An introduction the new IndieFlix service offered by the library, along with a run through of online movie review sites and some movie apps for mobile devices.

October 4th — MOOCS
Learning no longer takes place only in bricks and mortar schools. There is a plethora of free online options for lifelong learning, ranging from 15 minute talks to semester long classes. We’ll touch on a variety of resources available.

October 18 — Downloading ebooks to Apple devices
A chance to review the use of the library’s Overdrive service for checking out ebooks or audiobooks and reading them on your apple mobile devices. This session is part of the Library and People Plus’s fall Apple Harvest program, focusing on Apple devices.

October 25 — Downloading ebooks to non-apple devices (e-readers or tablets) (this session only held in the seminar room.)
Reviewing the use of the Overdrive service in the non-apple world. This will cover both e-readers and tablets. BYOD (Bring your own device) and we’ll help answer questions after covering the basics.

Monday, November 4 at 10 a.m. — Google Earth
Instructor Craig Snapp will demonstrate some of the powerful capabilities of Google Earth including worldwide searching, Street View, 3D Buildings, Earth Gallery, historical satellite imagery, touring of scenic and important world sites, access to public map databases and the ability to create custom maps that can be shared with friends and family.
