On Wednesday, Marched 6, Curtis Friends President, Carrie Strasburger and Vice President/President-Elect, Judith Redwine presented Library Director Elisabeth Doucett with a $10,000 check to establish the Curtis Friends Endowment Fund in support of the ongoing operations and longevity of the library.
“Thanks to the support of more than 700 members, our fundraising efforts – including the Annual Book Sale – and the dedication of our board and many volunteers, Curtis Friends is thrilled to establish the Curtis Friends Endowment Fund,” said Board President Carrie Strasburger.
“Curtis Memorial Library is a community treasure, and the Friends strive to support the library in its efforts to keep its collection, programming and technology offerings current and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.”
Library Director Elisabeth Doucett added, “Curtis Friends work tirelessly to raise funds and awareness for the library in the communities of Brunswick and Harpswell. Their efforts are seen throughout and around the library – sponsoring programs and speakers for children and adults, underwriting the new Bestseller’s Express and new technology like our self-check-out system, and caretaking of the gardens and grounds.
While many public libraries have Friends groups who support programming and projects, Friends-supported endowment funds are largely unprecedented. Curtis Memorial Library is truly grateful to the Curtis Friends for their foresight and commitment to the library through this most generous gesture.”
Curtis Friends expect to add to the fund annually. Income from this discretionary endowment fund will be allocated to areas of greatest need in the library. — JS
